Ruth is on the right road

August 2007

Ruth Tucker has joined Hertfordshire University's Environment Team in a new role as assistant travel plan co-ordinator. Ruth is undertaking this exciting new position as her placement year, which forms part of her Environmental Studies degree course.

Her role will include undertaking substantial work on developing a city-wide travel strategy on behalf of the St Albans Local Strategic Partnership, of which the university is a partner.

The post is part funded by St Albans City and District Council, which has contributed £5,000 towards the cost. Ruth will be working closely with transportation and sustainability officers at the council and contributing to the development of its green travel plan.

Work will involve extensive consultation with businesses and interested bodies based in the city centre. The aim of the project is to begin to develop an understanding of commuters' behaviour and attitudes when travelling to St Albans city centre for work. Ruth will also be involved with assisting in the further development of the university's own travel plan as well as the new Carbon Management Project.

Ruth commented: "I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into my placement year and feel privileged that I can be involved in such a dynamic and evolving project which forges links between the university and St Albans city centre."

Made up of key voluntary, public and private sector organisations, the St Albans and District Local Strategic Partnership's task is to deliver and implement the Community Strategy, improving the quality of life in the district and making it a better place to live, work and visit.
