Shape the future - live the life

17 July, 2003

Help shape the future of St Albans City and District, is an invitation to residents and businesses to take part in the first major public consultation on a community plan for the area.

Throughout the summer members of the Local Strategic Partnership for St Albans will be out and about in the district talking to members of the public about a new community plan that will tackle the big issues facing the area.

A Vision for St Albans and District takes a fresh look at the challenges a new partnership of the public and private sector; voluntary and community organisations will tackle together using their combined powers. The plan covers:

  • Working and travelling
  • A safer community
  • Safeguarding the environment and heritage
  • Healthy, well housed, caring community
  • Learning, leisure and the arts

Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, Brian Peyton said:"We have worked already consulted widely to tease out the issues where we feel the partnership can make an impact and create a real difference in the quality of life in the district.

"There is still much to do and we now need the help of the public to tell us what their priorities for action are. We need to know what matters to residents so we can ensure we are putting our efforts and resources where residents will benefit from improvements."

The interactive consultation programme will give everyone in the community an opportunity to comment. A series of roadshows will be at: St Albans street market; supermarket stores and rail stations giving the public the chance to talk directly to partnership members, ask questions and complete a survey. A summary draft community plan will be distributed throughout the district at community locations, including libraries and leisure centres. The plan and survey will also be available on line at www.stalbanslsp.org.uk
The closing date for comments is 29 August, 2003.
